Home-Cooked Spaghetti Sauce

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 garlic clove, minced
1 onion, finely chopped
1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
3 cans (28 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
2 tablespoons sugar (optional)
1 tablespoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the garlic, onion, and green pepper and sauté for
2 to 3 minutes, or until the onion and pepper are tender, stirring frequently.
2. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1 hour, or until
the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.
